Initially, Carat Electronics AD was established as memory devices plant in 1969. In 1983, due to a change in its field of business, the name of the company was changed to "Teleworking Systems and Networks" (STN) and retained this name until the beginning of 2005, when it became Carat Electronics AD.

In 1997 the company was privatized and between 2000 and mid-2014 its main shareholder was "Zlaten Lev Holding" AD. Since the beginning of July 2014, the company has been managed by AQ Group.

At the end of 2017 the newly created company Carat Electronics AD bought part of AQ Group's business related to the production and marketing of fiscal devices and electrical energy meters. The company aims to develop a successful trade policy, thanks to innovative approaches and to continue to be one of the leading manufacturers of microprocessor devices.
